The Great Gatsby Engagement Inspiration: Blaire & Sam

The Roaring Twenties were a remarkable time period full of change, new ideas, economical prosperity, and technological advances. Jazz, dancing, and radio emerged in a giant way ... and along with it, iconic flapper fashion and Art Deco that continue to inspire so many people today.

The Great Gatsby Engagement Session With an Old Hollywood Vibe

F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic novel, The Great Gatsby, took place in the 1920's ... and became the inspiration for Blaire and Sam's The Great Gatsby engagement shoot in Old Sacramento. Bride-to-be Blaire was not so keen on the flapper fashion of the 1920's, and instead stuck with a vintage glam/Old Hollywood style for her and Sam's session. The ultra-chic couple used four different photos from their session for their save the date magnets from MagnetStreet ... and they are simply marvelous! Their photographer, Levi from Mr. & Mrs. Photography, perfectly captured their personalities and chemistry. Friends & family received one of these four stunning options: Ritz & Romance Save the Date Magnets Great Gatsby Engagement Save the Date Whispering Feather Save the Date Magnets Great Gatsby Engagement Save the Date Great Gatsby Engagement Save the Date Great Gatsby Engagement Save the Date "My experience with MagnetStreet was amazing! I could type in 'art deco', 'great gatsby,' or 'vintage' ... and all types of save the dates I was interested in came up. It is very easy to personalize each item, giving it our own touch. I cant wait to order my wedding invitations through MagnetStreet!" Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "Sam's favorite photo, obviously, is the one with the basketball. Basketball is his life, and he wanted to make sure it was incorporated in at least ONE photo. That ended up being one of the four save the dates we chose, and no surprise there ... it went to all his basketball associates and former college teammates."   Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "From the beginning I knew I wanted a 1920's/ The Great Gatsby themed wedding. I wanted my engagement photos to match this as well. Sacramento has a downtown area known as Old Sacramento, which has a lot of original buildings and monuments that suited our theme well." Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "My favorite photo is also one of our save the dates, where I'm holding onto Sam's arm and giving my super model 'barely there' smile! Sam also loves how mischievous he looks with his eyes barely showing under the brim of his hat." Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "Sam and I did our research, going a few weeks prior to our scheduled engagement shoot to look for locations and backdrops that would work well with our theme. I was able to find a great woman online in the Sacramento area who owned a vintage vehicle, which she was willing to let us take photos with." Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "I kept texting Sam photos of Leonardo DiCaprio from The Great Gatsby, and told him, 'you can wear whatever you want, as long as it's within the theme ... and you look just as dapper as Leo did in this film!'" Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot "When people think of 1920's costumes, they think of the flapper girls! I did NOT want a flapper dress. I wanted gowns that looked like I was attending the Oscars in the 1920's." Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot How it all began Blaire & Sam met six years ago at a fitness club. She couldn't get the lockers to work, so Sam popped over to help her out. Thinking he worked for the gym, Blaire let him do his thing. {Really, he was contracting the gym out for his coaching gig and pretended to be an employee. He used this as his chance to meet Blaire ... smooth move!} And to this day, neither of them know how to operate the lockers! Great Gatsby Engagement Shoot The proposal "Like any other girl, my heart was set on going to the Eiffel Tower. So on day 4 of Paris we went during the day. It was beautiful!!! Sam said, 'I heard at 10pm, it lights up and sparkles so we should come back tonight.' That night on August 10, 2015, at 9:58pm, Sam had asked a man to take a photo. The man said 'it's on video, how do I switch to photo?' Sam told the man to just take a video instead and the man looked dumbfounded but did as Sam had asked. Then all the sudden the clock struck 10pm, the Eiffel Tower lit the sky of Paris, Sam opened his reading glasses case, and out popped a burgundy box! I freaked out!! I was NOT expecting this. I went in to kiss Sam and he said 'it's not that part yet, I haven't even asked you what I'm down on my knee to ask you.' And then we both just started laughing! In the video all you hear is the camera man shouting 'YYYYEEEEEAAAAHHH!!!' He was just as excited as I was!"

Best wishes to Blaire and Sam on their wedding planning journey! Their wedding is SURE to be full of more fabulous elements of 1920's glitz, glamour, and fun! xo
