Guthrie Theater Wedding: Micah & Tia

We're doubly excited to feature this lovely wedding today--Tia is one of our graphic designers at MagnetStreet!

Micah and Tia's modern wedding was held at the nationally recognized Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis, MN. Boasting three stages, a full service restaurant and some of the best views in Minneapolis, the Guthrie was the perfect venue for this classy and easy going couple. With only 25 guests in attendance, Micah and Tia could focus on making each of their guests feel special and cared for. As for their wedding colors, Micah and Tia chose to embrace the rich, cobalt blues and amber yellow accent windows of the Guthrie. The result: elegant, romantic and perfect for their fall wedding.

Enjoy as Tia guides us through their big day ...

About The Guthrie
Our wedding and reception were both held at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. The Guthrie has an “Endless Bridge” where we held the wedding ceremony. It is a bridge that extends more than a half block from the building face, and overlooks one of the most scenic spots in Minneapolis: the Stone Arch Bridge on the Mississippi River (where Micah and I had our 4th date … on the 4thof July!) The reception was held in the Guthrie’s the Pohlad Lobby. All exterior “walls” of this lobby are floor-to-ceiling amber glass with a breathtaking 360 degree birds’-eye view of the Minneapolis skyline.

On designing her own invitations ...  As a designer, I think I went through about 15 versions of our wedding invitation design before I landed on the final version. I finally chose the draft that incorporated the Stone Arch Bridge, since it holds sentimental value for both of us. I also knew that our guests would be able to see that very bridge from the ceremony site, so it seemed quite fitting.

Best part of the entire day
Our reception! We had an intimate wedding of 25 guests. Our dinner was so memorable; Not because of the (delicious) food, but because of the conversations that were able to take place with such a small group of people. We had our parents sitting at either side of us,  and all the dearest people in our lives surrounding us at the same table. The meal began with a table grace spoken by a very close family friend, and proceeded with the clinking of glasses as warm toasts from our loved ones were shared throughout the evening. We will always cherish the memories around that table.

Advice you’re glad you took
Delegate! Micah and I spent weeks organizing every detail of our wedding day. We made an excel spreadsheet with every “errand” or “job” that needed to be completed throughout the course of our big day – then added in names of family or friends that could take care of those details for us. We communicated these tasks ahead of time, so if there were any questions they could ask us at the rehearsal. Everything went without a hitch – and we were able to completely relax, soak in the day, and focus on each other.

Advice you’d like to give
Make sure you focus on what would make your guests happy at your wedding. Is there a way they could be involved that would be meaningful to them? Get them involved. Is there something they should be commended for? Include that note of appreciation in your program. Does someone have a dietary concern? Speak with your caterer about it, and let them know in advance that their dietary preferences will be met. Yes, this wedding day is about you – but these special guests have probably played a significant role in shaping who YOU are … so make them feel special!

Highlighted Moments:
We loved being taken away in a horse and carriage at the end of the evening. It was not only a romantic get-away, but it also allowed us some time to reminisce over the highlights of the day together. It was also cute how complete strangers would yell out “Congratulations” to us as we passed them on the streets.

Vendor Shout Out

Guthrie Theatre
Karen, our event coordinator at the Guthrie Theater, did an excellent job handling all the minute details of the wedding day.

Adrienne, our award-winning pastry chef, did such an amazing job with our modern wedding cake. It was scrumptious and delectable. She also gets kudos for making two specialty vegan cupcakes for those of us with alternative diets.
