Art Nouveau or "New Art" was a brand-new and distinctive style of art that was most popular in Europe but also spread across North America too. Emerging around the turn of the 19th century and during the industrial revolution {1890-1914'ish}, Art Nouveau was a movement to create a new form of art--something wholly distinctive.
I love the spirit behind this movement! I can imagine that the artists of this day were not exactly inspired by the onslaught of mass automation. So, from advertising to architecture and interior design to paintings, their attempt to visually create something new and wholly artistic, resulted in decorative and pretty patterns, curvy lines, vines, and asymmetrical shapes. Gorgeous!
Love the Art Nouveau style? Here are two ways you can lend a vintage vibe to your modern wedding stationery.
