Casual Backyard Wedding & Loft Reception

Casual Backyard Wedding & Loft Reception

We have a gorgeous backyard wedding and loft reception for you today. Captured by Megan Wendt Photo + Design, we love the purity and sweet simplicity--not only of the photos but of Brae and Tony's wedding style. They were going for a simple and casual wedding look and nailed it with elegance and stylish confidence. Some of our favorite highlights include Brae and her Dad taking a selfie as they walked down the aisle, gorgeous florals, and the smart and chic invite design they used to set the tone. Love. Enjoy as Brae shares savvy advice and takes us through the details of their big day.

About THE dress...
My dress was a lace, fit and flare from The Wedding Shoppe in St Paul, MN. It originally had a sparkly belt, but since I was going for simple, I took the belt off and replaced it with a champagne sash. At The Wedding Shoppe, I was fortunate and got a private room which was wonderful and quiet. If any of you have heard about The Wedding Shoppe, you know that it’s a busy place!

Highlights from the day …

Selfie with my Dad
Right before it was time to walk down the aisle (keep in mind I was a bit nervous), my dad asked me if we could take a selfie as we’re walking down. I gave him a look of, “are you serious?” He nodded. So, right before my dad gave me away, we took a selfie together. It was an unexpected surprise and the picture turned out great. The picture calmed me down and put a smile on everyone’s face.

Spending time with family & friends
On the day of your wedding, you are truly blessed with love and support from your family and friends. All of these people have taken time out of their busy lives to come and be with you as you say “I do”. My husband and I had a great time mingling with everyone and catching up with some that we haven’t seen in a long time.

Midnight
Yes, I had a great time and a day that I’ll never forget ... and even though one of my highlights was spending time with friends and family, my other highlight was when it was just the two of us. Peace and quiet.

Advice you’re glad you took…
The advice that I received was: take it all in as it will go by way too fast. Everyone says this--and it’s so true. You spend months planning one day and then poof, it’s over with and you’re taking off your dress that you worked so hard to fit into.

Advice you'd like to give...
We decided to save some money and use Spotify as our music. It took a lot of time to come up with the playlist and unfortunately, some of the songs were quieter than others--poor consistency. So, if you are thinking about DIY music, I personally would recommend hiring a DJ and/or triple-checking the sound system. (We checked it, but not for a variety of songs).

Wedding Thank You Card ...

Tony and Brae used one of their wedding photos and transformed a large Save the Date Magnet from the Sweetly Charmed design suite into their Thank You Card. {Looks fab!}

Wedding Pro Shout Out

MagnetStreet Weddings
My experience with MagnetStreet was fantastic. I worked with Megan (a designer) and she created a simple, elegant, clean line invitation for me. It was perfect and exactly what I was looking for!

Megan Wendt Photo + Design
Our photographer was Megan Wendt (Gaul). Megan was wonderful to work with. She came prepared, was organized, listened to our style and did an amazing job. We are super happy with our pictures!

Brasa
Our food was catered by Brasa. I would highly recommend them and Ash was so great to work with. The food was fantastic and everyone was ranting and raving about it. We had pulled chicken, smoked beef, coleslaw, macaroni & cheese, rice & beans, coconut curry vegetables and mini corn bread. Most of the food was gluten-free and all was peanut allergy safe. One of my favorite things was that the staff packaged two to-go containers of food for my husband and I. So, at the end of the night, when we got back to our hotel room, we scarfed down the food from our wedding. It was so thoughtful and very much appreciated.

The Studio J Loft
Our reception was at The Studio J Loft. It was such a unique place that had a ton of personality, that it didn’t need a lot of decorations. It fit well with our simple, casual theme. What else I loved about it was that we could bring in our own caterer and booze. Definitely a money saver!

La Petite Fleur
My flowers were done by La Petite Fleur. Carra was wonderful and great to work with. My bouquet was beautiful and consisted of peach roses, mustard roses, dusty miller, grey succulents, white mums, pink ranunculus, white calla lilies and seeded eucalyptus.
