Rob & Julie ... August 13, 2011
From the historic grounds and kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, to Julie's lovely look and gorgeous high-necked wedding gown, to her sweet sentiments describing their day--Julie & Rob's country wedding is as beautiful as it is elegant. Read on as Julie recounts the day and the family and friends that made it all so special!
Wedding Style: Country Elegance
Wedding Colors: Fuchsia Pink, Orange, Yellow and Brown to tie it all together
Ceremony & Reception: Smithfield Plantation House on the historic grounds of Virginia Tech University. Cocktail hour on the lawn was in front of the house.
"We absolutely loved the venue at the historic plantation with its new pavilion constructed in 2010. It added to the overall charm of the country setting of the historic plantation and in particular, the stone fireplace in the pavilion is gorgeous. Having a large tent for the reception worked well as it poured just before the reception started but we were ready to go into the tent anyway for dinner."
Photographer: Step{into}View Photography
"They took the time to visit the venue beforehand and check out where to do photos. We loved all those idyllic pastoral settings. They were very patient with us and spent plenty of time on family pictures. A fabulous job and we are thrilled with the photos."
Wedding Coordinator: Brandy Faulkner Weddings & Special Events
Our wedding coordinator was great. What a relief on the day to have someone to take care of all the details and dealing with vendors so Mom and I could enjoy the day. She certainly took the pressure off the family on the wedding day and was well worth the investment. She was so patient and a wonderful help!
Florist: Best Wishes Blacksburg
"Best Wishes Blacksburg did a fabulous job on the flowers. We had one consultation but everything was as the bride wanted it and the pavilion looked fabulous with all the greenery and decorations. They really helped to set the tone with the elegance."
Wedding Stationery: MagnetStreet Weddings
"Everything worked with all the colors and designs. In particular, we loved the place cards for the tables--on the back you could put "our new address" which was a great idea! We really liked that designs were checked by a designer and suggestions made where we wanted to change spacing etc. The service was always fast and efficient & we will certainly use you again. Using the tools online for personalization for font, color, and inserting pictures was simple & easy to use so you could design whatever worked with your theme."
About the umbrellas "On the spur of the moment, after we got our hair done in the morning, it looked so grey we went to the florist for those flower umbrellas--which we used in the back yard pictures at our family's house before we left for the ceremony and they worked out great!"
Highlights of the day....
Getting married in that lovely setting and dancing as a married couple. Also, it was so great to have family from Utah, England, and friends from Canada and Germany there to celebrate with us - we were so happy! It was so great to have my twin sister back from Iraq for a couple of weeks so we could enjoy my wedding together. She was my Maid of Honor and it made it all really special on the day to have her around!
Advice you’re glad you took...
Getting a wedding coordinator since that took the worry of the day off the shoulders of my mom and me. Worth every penny and then some!
Advice you wished you took...
Scheduling a longer time in the reception where we could move around as we tried to go around to all the tables to speak to everyone and thank them for coming etc. We would have loved to have been able to spend more time with our guests. Everyone was in such a good mood and it was so infectious--we loved talking to everyone; but there was so much of the ceremony parts to deal with first! In retrospect, we wish we had hired a videographer. Everything went by so fast and it would be nice to relive it all later on.
Advice you’d like to give...
Relax and enjoy the day; you are only going to go through this once and you need to enjoy the time with everyone. "In the end, when the flowers, food, and music are gone, the memory remains; this memory must be the one that lasts a lifetime." Should have built in time for a receiving line at the reception.

Best part of the whole wedding day...
Getting married to my best friend and having all my relatives and friends around to share in that special time..... priceless!
