We featured Daniel and Tanya Thrasher's witty chemistry-themed Save the Date earlier this year, and were so excited when they allowed us a peek {okay, more than just a peek} into their big day.
Their Day of the Dead wedding theme—featuring a red and black color scheme, rich red florals, and colorful sugar skulls—was perfect for this fun couple. And it fit together SO great with science decor elements that included Erlenmeyer flask vases, and DIY chalkboard table numbers and chemistry-themed place cards.
Daniel and Tanya ordered nearly a full stationery suite from MagnetStreet—including Save the Dates, Invites, and Thank Yous. With their wedding theme partly focused on their careers in science, they were excited to find the perfect "science-y" stationery pieces that fit them to a Th(rasher) ... get it?

"The honeycomb invite theme was a great pseudo-chemistry theme. The honeycomb structure looks similar to six-carbon chemical rings, and the design looked fantastic in our colors of red and black ... so it was a clear choice. How they met
Tanya and Daniel met on an online a dating site in late 2013. After a few days messaging back and forth, they met for a beer. They hit it off instantly and quickly fell in love!
A bit about the Thrashers
They enjoy running and visiting brew pubs! Daniel had recently discovered a love for running shortly before meeting Tanya. She gave it a shot, and they now continue to run 4-5 races a year ... and visit brew pubs together.
"We are in our mid-thirties and going into our wedding, we were excited just to be having one. We didn't have any desire for it to be anything big or fancy...we just wanted to be happy and have a good time with our friends and family."
Fun fact & future tattoo
"We've had an unintended, but wonderful, and frequent interaction with the movie 'Ghostbusters' during our relationship. It was one of the first films we watched together. We saw it together once when it played on the big screen in Fenway Park. Then during a weekend getaway in the the back woods of Vermont, we watched it on one of our phones while lying in bed (and then found out the next morning Harold Ramis had passed). This summer we'll be commemorating this aspect of our relationship with tattoos containing a ghost trap from the film capturing an anatomical heart!"
For the love of science
Each table's centerpiece included an Erlenmeyer flask holding rich red florals, DIY easel chalkboard table numbers, and two books. "The books were one each of our most meaningful twenty books, and each was inscribed in the front with why that book was important to us. These books were intended for the guests to take home."
The place card table had old wooden test tube racks with six tubes each, holding single red flowers. The pretty black picture frames also became wedding favors for guests. "There was a chemical structure on one side, and the other side described that chemical and what it means to feelings of love and intimacy."
Day of the Dead Wedding Details
Best part of the day?
"Honestly: everything. Both of us have a lot of family and friends who are scattered across the country who we got to see (some for the first time in years) on that day. Everything went off without a hitch, so there was no stress about needing to fix anything. We got to spend some amount of time with almost everybody who attended. Of course, seeing each other at the ends of the aisle was an amazing moment, but really the entire day was a high point. It was exactly what we wanted: a day spent with the people we love where we weren't stressed out, and everyone had a fantastic time."
Advice for couples planning their wedding?
Have fun. Work together on everything. Things you can do yourself are so much more rewarding when you see them on the day and when people appreciate them.
