On Hand-Crafting the Wedding Invitation

Lisa and John 25

You remember Lisa and Johnathon don't you?  Adorable couple.  Soon to be married! Well, as graphic designer for MagnetStreet, Lisa has designed lots of Save the Dates and Invitations over the last few years.  And as it is with all of us, everything changes when it becomes personal...

In Lisa's words~

on hand-painting wedding Invitations for their October wedding...

How much fun are invitations? Okay, maybe they're the most fun when you're just browsing the internet and viewing all the beautiful options out there. Or maybe it's when they're actually done and on your doorstep. Or maybe it's the most fun when the RSVP's start coming back to you. I think my favorite moment was finishing the design and sending a "sneak peek" pdf to my mom, sister, and future mother-in-law for their reactions. They, of course, loved them (you can judge if they're simply biased!).

Getting to that step, however, was not so much fun. You would think that for a person who designs invitations for a living this would be a snap... but it was quite the opposite. I had wedding colors and flowers picked out, but our wedding really didn't have a particular theme to work from. So I hemmed...and hawed...and watched my self-proclaimed deadline draw closer...and closer...

Then one Friday afternoon at MagnetStreet we broke out the markers to test out our new Visual Planner, and it was really fun! Suddenly, I thought, hey, where are my colors? I started to doodle, and it finally dawned on me: I can use our flowers as the theme, and I can paint them myself with watercolor to put a handcrafted stamp on the design! That weekend I painted the flowers, scanned them in, laid out the invitation, and voila! the invitations were ordered. I waited to breathe the sigh of relief until they were at my door - and let me tell you, opening that package felt like a grand homecoming.
