Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery

The orange and blue wedding of one of our very own MagnetStreet couples is gorgeous! Orange and blue may make for an unexpected wedding color combo, but Alli and Sean brought all the details together in the most perfect way with toned-down hues of these bright colors. Plus the Texas couple wanted to commemorate the beginning of their love story at their alma mater, Auburn University!

We so love the details and how it all came together. Their orange and blue wedding was traditional, but definitely held an elegant vibe with their reception at The Gallery in Houston providing the perfect ambiance. We loved hearing all the details of their gorgeous wedding day! Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery

Alli and Sean's Elegant Orange and Blue Wedding

Location: St. Cecilia's Catholic Church & The Gallery | Houston, TX Theme: Elegant meets traditional Colors: Toned-down oranges and blues "I immediately fell in love with the traditional, elegant vibe of our chosen reception venue the first time we toured it! The exposed brick, ivy covered walls, and fountain on the terrace were just stunning. To complement our venue we chose a traditional, elegant style of white linens and plentiful flowers with lush greenery. But given the role our alma mater played in our love story, we knew we HAD to incorporate its orange and blue. We traded Auburn’s traditional screaming orange and navy blue for toned-down versions of its colors, choosing orange flowers and incorporating a pale, dusty blue into our wedding party’s attire." Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery A search for the perfect dress "Before I actually went dress shopping, I had Pinterest boards full of very traditional dresses with A-line silhouettes, and I was definitely convinced that that was what I wanted. But when I finally got to the bridal salon, none of the dresses I thought I would love looked quite right when I put them on. I was quickly growing discouraged, since some of my bridesmaids had traveled great distances to shop with me that weekend, and I felt a huge amount of pressure to leave the salon with a dress that day. Thankfully, my consultant was listening carefully and had been picking up on the different design elements that I was and wasn’t liking. Probably sensing my growing frustration, she said something along the lines of 'just trust me on this one' as she pulled a strapless satin fit-and-flare dress with lace detailing on the hem. At first I totally balked at the silhouette, which was much more fitted than I thought I wanted, but she encouraged me to give it a shot. As soon as I slipped it on, I was amazed by how well it complimented my body, and when I walked out of the dressing room to show my family and bridesmaids, their reaction said it all - we had found 'The Dress.' To keep it from clashing with the traditional vibe I was building for my day, we paired it with a lace dress topper, and it was perfect. I am so thankful that I trusted my consultant and would definitely encourage other brides to do the same!" Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery Something borrowed, blue, old, and new “'Something old' was the antique handkerchief that was wrapped around my bouquet - it had been in my family for several years. My 'something new was the fun AU garter that I surprised Sean with! :) For 'borrowed,' I wore the same earrings that my mother wore in her wedding. And lastly, my 'something blue' was my sorority pin - my sorority’s jewel is the sapphire, so it was quite fitting, and my bridesmaids who were sorority sisters also wore their pins inside their dresses which was extra special for us." Sean proposed on the fifth yard line of Jordan-Hare Stadium a few hours before a home game, surrounded by our closest Auburn friends who had watched us become 'us' back in college. We also have ESPN HD footage of our proposal, since they had already rigged up their cameras for that day’s game when Sean popped the question." I ultimately trusted MagnetStreet with my guests’ first impression of my day because of the ease of the design process. Customizing the template online was fast and easy, and where my requests were beyond the capabilities of the online customization tool, I was able to correspond with a designer who sent me multiple proofs based on my specific requests. I felt like my design was in good hands from start to finish, and when my invitations arrived on my doorstep, I was not disappointed! The quality was beautiful and I got so many compliments from my guests!" Sean designed our groom’s cake as an homage to our alma mater, with bride and groom Tigers standing atop a pedestal covered with paw prints and embellished with a replica of the iconic sign that flanks Auburn’s campus. Sean is also a big lover of Legos and incorporated them into the design with a cool feature that gave the impression that the groom’s cake was built with orange and blue toy bricks! We had a blast tasting different cake flavors and couldn’t possibly choose just one. We ended up going with a different flavor for each tier, including vanilla, strawberry, chocolate hazelnut, lemon, and dulce de leche." Sean: "Just to piggyback off of Alli's comments, I'm so glad we went with a variety of flavors - they were all yummy and I'm glad our guests had plenty to choose from. I also had a really fun time incorporating designs into the grooms cake, but it came out so much better than I imagined." Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery Highlight of the day Alli: "It’s a little untraditional, but for me, the best part of the day was playing the 'shoe game' at our reception. After a long and stressful day, it was fun to relax and have a good laugh. Our answers ended up being hilarious, and our guests got a kick out of this!" Sean: "For me, it was our first dance. Our DJ is also a singer/songwriter, and he composed an original song for our first dance that was really great and incorporated some of the 'how we met' details. Alli and I enjoy dancing, but I'm a much more recent convert and I was nervous leading up to the day of because I was worried about making a mistake! But it went beautifully (and I didn't drop her!), and it was just a lot of fun." Elegant + Traditional Orange and Blue Wedding At The Gallery The couple's advice for other couples Alli: "Without question, hire a Day-Of Coordinator. When it comes to communicating with vendors, scheduling deliveries, overseeing setup, and handling mini-crises on the big day, it’s best to trust a pro so that you can preserve your sanity and focus on what’s important - the beautiful commitment you are making to your groom! And along a similar vein, TRUST the pros who help you with each aspect of your big day. They have seen so many weddings and usually have a really solid idea of what might work or not work for your specific set of circumstances. If your florist says the specific flower you dreamed of won’t be in season on your big day and suggests an alternative, trust him or her, and your bouquets will be beautiful and full of life! When your bridal salon consultant pulls a dress that you thought you’d never in a million years wear down the aisle, give her a chance to surprise you (like I did!) When your photographer wants to try a shot that’s a little off-the-wall, relax and go with it - it could be your favorite shot of the day!" Sean: "Hey, the groom helped plan too in this case! More often I helped to execute, and that's my suggestion. Our coordinator was extremely helpful, but there are some things that the bride and/or groom will need to handle themselves in the months leading up (e.g. communicating with vendors, dropping off payments, etc). Whoever it is (bride, groom, MoH/BM, etc), somebody or multiple people should be on call to handle these details!"
