Emily & Michael's Oh-So-Romantic Spring Engagement Photo Shoot
Emily and Michael's spring engagement photo shoot is dashing! Their outdoor engagement session took place on an overcast afternoon in the Beacon, New York area. Most photographers would agree that overcast weather makes for ideal lighting conditions ... and this photo shoot proves no different.
With new life blooming everywhere on a joyous spring day, Emily and Michael are so lucky in love and ready for their new life adventure! Spring is an utterly romantic time of the year for engagement photos. Lush greenery, a pop of punchy color, and candid romance ... be inspired by this sweet couple's dashing photos by Erica at Sweet Alice Photography {along with their super-cute story from Emily's POV}!
Two Geminis on a blind date
Michael and I met on a blind date (the first for both of us). Michael's aunt was my co-worker at the time and after a work function full of dancing, she told me that her nephew and I have "similar energy" and would like to set us up. I agreed and then Michael and I began texting and set up a date for May in 2013. We clicked immediately, once we realized we are both Geminis and love to quote the same movies. We spent the entire date laughing and talking without any awkward silences. We were so enthralled in conversation that we never ordered any food. The date flew by and we both couldn't wait to see each other again.
Surprise proposal after a romantic getaway
Our proposal was totally off the cuff and very "us." Michael had picked out a diamond (but not the setting or band) and just got down on one knee while we were lounging in our first shared apartment on a lazy Sunday, March 22, 2015. He got down on one knee and I had no idea what he was doing, I thought he must have dropped something. It was funny to me because we had just come back from a very romantic weekend getaway in the Adirondacks that would have been the perfect setting, but he asked me in our living room. He said that he wanted me to be surprised.
Nostalgic e-session locale
I chose the location of the engagement photo shoot because it was right next door to the apartment I was living in when Michael and I met. We used to walk around the grounds together ... and the area with the Hudson River is just spectacular.
A lot of laughs while posing
The best parts of the engagement photo shoot were trying to pose, as Michael and I had never done anything like it before. We really got to see what our actual wedding day would be like and how helpful and creative our photographer Erica would be. We had a lot of laughs trying to come up with the right poses and backdrops.
Their fave
My favorite photo from the day is the photo of us under the arch of greenery. I think the colors pop beautifully and it looks like something out of a magazine.
A snake ... no thanks!
We also came across a snake at one point while we were taking photos near a barn, and I freaked out (I have a phobia of snakes), and Erica (the photographer) was totally cool and didn't seem to judge my screams.
Sweet Alice Photography ...
I was amazed by Erica's eye for detail and her ability to pick out the perfect backdrops of scenery for the photos. She would tell us to go stand in the woods, among the tall grass and trees and the photos just came out gorgeous.
Wedding plans
The theme of our wedding day is a elegant/rustic. We will be getting married at Hollow Brook Golf Club (later this spring), and the venue is gorgeous with tall wooden ceilings and chandeliers. It will be beautiful.
We wish only the best for you, Emily and Michael, as you embark on your marriage journey. Thank you so much for sharing your engagement session with us, and of course ... thank you to Erica at Sweet Alice Photography!
