Natalie's side of the story:
How did you and Kyle meet? We met at Bethel University {St. Paul, MN} in our biology class. Our professor had assigned lab partners and we were assigned each other. (Obviously our professor could tell that we were meant for each other!) We’ve been dating for 2 years, 2 months, 14 days, 3 hours, 22 minutes…23 minutes… And when did you know that he was THE ONE? It was more gradual for me. Dating Kyle has been such a blessing and it didn’t take long to realize that he’s the real deal. The confirmation for me was when I saw how well we fit in with each other’s families. Tell us about the time leading up to the proposal—did you have any idea what Kyle was up to? I kind of expected it because he had taken the day off from work and he wouldn’t tell me what we were going to do. This meant he must have planned something in advance, which is definitely out of the ordinary for him, so I was suspicious. We went canoeing down the St. Croix, than we went out of for a nice dinner right by Centennial Lakes. Once I noticed we were eating by Centennial Lakes, I was pretty confident that he was going to ask because that is where he had asked me to be his girlfriend 2 years ago. We walked around the Lakes after dinner and we headed to the exact bench that we sat on 2 years ago. He began talking and I started crying before he could even ask the big question! What happened next…? He asked me to stand up, he got on one knee, and I said "YES!" What’s your favorite thing about Kyle? It’s hard to pick just one! But one of my favorite things about Kyle is his ability to make people around him laugh and feel cared about. He is such a genuine person. He is a big goofball, which makes him so fun to be around and he has a heart full of love, which makes him someone I can’t live without! Must-watch wedding movie now? Father of the Bride. First wedding planning item on the to-do list? Find a venue for the reception. Any idea what your wedding style is? Rustic. How many times have you told your proposal story so far? Too many to count!
Kyle's side of the story
When did you know that Natalie was THE ONE? During my senior year at Bethel, Natalie and I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Honduras with the ministry of Agua Viva. The mission of Agua Viva is to come alongside villagers who don’t have clean water and build a water system. Throughout the week I was able to see that Natalie’s heart was truly as loving and kind as I thought it was. I remember shortly after arriving back in the states, telling friends and family that I was going to marry her. How did you decide to surprise her with a proposal? I knew I wanted to start the day with something that would be fun and active, something that fits our personalities. Then I wanted to bring her to a nice restaurant that was near Centennial Lakes since this was the place I had asked her to be my girlfriend 2 years ago. Were you nervous? No, I am a man, I don’t get nervous (ok, my heart was going like a million miles an hour…) Beside her saying “YES” what was the best thing about Natalie’s reaction? Natalie started crying before I even started asking. This showed me how excited and happy she was about the proposal. What’s your favorite thing about Natalie? Wow, one thing? Well, if I had to pick one thing, I would say that Natalie is by far the most caring person I know. She is the kind of person that anybody could pour their heart out to and she would genuinely be concerned with that individual, regardless of if she even knew them. I absolutely love this about Natalie, she is so nice, but at the same time has a sarcastic sense of humor that matches mine perfectly. I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life with anybody else. Suit or tuxedo? Tuxedo. Band or DJ? DJ. How many times have you told your proposal story so far? I don’t know the number, but every girl that finds out has asked me in detail what I did. Every guy I’ve told simply says “congrats, so happy for you,” end of conversation. Congratulations Natalie and Kyle! Thanks for sharing your proposal story with us--it was so fun to read! We love it. We're happy for you and wish you a lifetime of blessings! xo
