I'm back in the office after a nice long vacation and well, lets just say... it's sugar and fat extraction at my house this week. Yep, nothing but broccoli and cauliflower for us... And, although I did print out Cheryl's divine recipe for Tuscan Cheese Spread, I won't be giving it any love for quite some time!
A great big cyber hug and congratulations to all who broke in 2009 with a marriage proposal! How exciting! Do your two families know each other well? If not, consider hosting an engagement party to get everyone acquainted. No rules really~ except for one... don't invite anyone to the engagement party that will not be invited to the wedding!
Engagement parties (occurring fairly soon after the proposal...1-4 months) are intended to celebrate your good news and join your families. Fashion the style and tone of your party with your families' tastes in mind. They can be as casual as a backyard BBQ.
Consider choosing your wedding party beforehand though; that way, you won't have to be constantly answering who is standing up for you.
The only other consideration would be that regarding gifts. Your guests might want or feel obligated to bring a gift. Register for a few items and inform your parents. Your parents can then inform the guests who are inquiring. Otherwise, simply by stating something sweet and clever on the invitation such as... Gift us with your Presence Only Please.... will let them know that gifts are not required.
So, are you newly engaged? Let us know!
