#1. Choose an Awesome Type and Design!

#2. Order in Plenty of Time
Begin researching your invitations at least 6 months before your wedding date. Place your order at least 4 months before your wedding date. (Since invites are typically sent 6-8 weeks ahead, count backwards from your day figuring in: ordering, personalizing, proofing, 10 day production time, and 1-5 days of delivery time).
#3. Choose Your Ensemble & Embellishment Items with Care
Which ensemble items are needed to communicate with your guests? i.e. RSVP Card, Enclosure Card, Program, Table Number and Place Cards, Favors and Thank Yous... And remember to embellish! #4. Personalize- it's gotta be you!

#5. Order Extra
Order at least 25 extra. You want extra for last-minute invites, keepsakes and mistakes.
#6. Check Your Proof {again and yet again}
Check. Check. And re-check the spellings of everything: your names, the ceremony and reception site names, the wedding date... before your invitations are printed. Ask detailed-oriented family and friends for proofing help!
#7. Include maps and directions
Provide directions and/or maps for out of town guests who aren't familiar with the area. Before you send though, proof the directions and check for detours and area road construction.
#8. Addressing Your Envelopes
If using 2 envelopes, the outer envelopes are addressed and stamped. The inner envelopes carry the names of those invited i.e. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson 1) We think it's a bit friendlier to find out and write out the names of unknown guests rather than writing "and guest." 2) Spell out professional titles i.e.Doctor. 3) If children are not invited, writethe names of the parents only.
#9. Keep Track of Your RSVPs
Include an RSVP date- usually 2 weeks prior to the wedding date. And, have a system for keeping track of guests responding. One option is to number your guest list and lightly write the corresponding number on the back of the RSVP Card. This will save you the headaches of trying to decipher hand writing.
#10. Know Your Postage Costs
Before mailing out your invitations, take one complete invitation to the post office and have it weighed! You do not want to read "return to sender for incomplete postage" across your lovely invite envelopes. That said, ask the postal worker if they will hand-cancel your invitations- for the best possible presentation on arrival.
