Jordan Almonds for Thee
Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat
To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet
Five wishes for the new husband and wife --
Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!
Awwww. . . . so sweet! For more than a thousand years, almonds were often given as wedding gifts to the couple, said to accompany good wishes for their new life together. In the thirteenth century, the practice of coating almonds in sugar became popular in Italy, and these new confections were called confetti. Over time, "confetti" transformed to "Jordan almonds" when the sugary almonds were wrapped up in sweet, little packages and given to wedding guests as . . . that's right, wedding favors!
At a Spanish wedding, guests will not, of course, leave empty-handed either, carrying with them a small vase filled with orange blossoms. The Dutch give 5 pieces of "bridal sugar" (candy), similar to the Jordan Almonds that the Italians made a tradition. How fun! The possibilities are endless!
Decisions, decisions. Today, the bride and groom are only limited by their imagination when it comes to selecting wedding favors. Typically, we Americans coordinate wedding favors with the wedding theme or something that represents the couple's lifestyle.
MagnetStreet Weddings is introducing a brand new wedding favor ~ the Wedding Favor Memo Board. They are small, come with their own pen, and the best part is they are personalized with whatever you want ~ your photo, a short thank you, or a favorite quote/verse/poem!
What will you choose for your wedding favors?
