Tell us about finding your wedding dress"I went to the Richmond Wedding Expo in January, and saw the most gorgeous dress. Then, a few months later, I went to a bridal shop and had a horrible experience. The dresses didn’t live up to the one I saw, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I even had dreams about it! So my maid of honor and I decided to go to Tiffany’s Bridal to find the dress from the expo. The staff was so friendly, and so accommodating and found the dress immediately. It looked so amazing, that I knew that was the dress ... the literal dress of my dreams!"
Their Watercolor Monogram invite suite from MagnetStreet customized in burgundy "I really loved the idea of a 'folder style' invitation. No other company had a design, or price that I loved as much as MagnetStreet did."
Did you have something borrowed, blue, old, and new?"Yes! Borrowed: A necklace my grandfather gave to my mother with a bear tooth on it. Blue: My undergarment. Old: My great grandmother’s handbag and handkerchief. New: Wedding dress and shoes."
Dish the engagement details! "We got engaged on December 20th, 2015. We went to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens to look at the Christmas Lights. Once we got far enough into the gardens, Josh pulled out a photo album and gave it to me to look through. As I was looking through the pictures, I found a note. It listed all the reasons he loved me, and how much fun we had had over the years. He said that he loved making memories with me as his girlfriend, but wanted to start making memories as husband and wife. And he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!"
When was your first look?"A lot of parts of our wedding were very traditional, and we decided to keep this part traditional as well. I always had this idea in my had that once I left the rehearsal dinner, I wouldn’t see my future hubby again until I was walking down the aisle!"
Favorite photo from the day"There were so many amazing photos from our day, but this one would have to be my favorite!"
Describe your wedding cake sister and maid of honor ended up making our cake for us! It was a very simple 3-tiered, white cake with white buttercream frosting. Our florist put some extra flowers on the sides, and our cake topper was rose gold that said 'Mr. and Mrs. Young.'"
Best part of the day"The whole day was such a blur, but so fun! Besides the obvious of getting to marry my husband, the highlight was getting to dance with all of our family and friends."
Any advice for brides planning their wedding? "The Knot app was super helpful! It gives you a checklist, and certain things that you should get done in the months leading up to your wedding. I also created a binder that had all of our important details in it. I also printed out the checklist so that I could physically check things off. Staying organized is key! And also to try and remember to have fun, and it never hurts to ask for help!"
