Admittedly, I love beautiful things~ I just don’t like to pay a lot of money for them and although some things are costly no matter what, usually whatever “they” are, can be found less expensively…somehow, somewhere.
Most couples-to-be have a budget to keep in mind as they are shopping for all things wedding related and the wedding gown has the potential to be one of the larger expenses. There are however, many ways to save on the wedding dress~ from shopping sample sales, to making your own, to buying used or consignment, to borrowing and even renting. (Don’t you love having options? My own wedding dress was less than $200; I didn’t buy it at a bridal shop).
Gina, our Customer Care Rep. rented her wedding dress. I asked her a couple of questions about it~ wanting to understand the advantages and disadvantages.
Here’s what Gina had to say about renting her wedding dress:
Gina: The "Bridal Boutique" (where I rented from) was recommended by a friend who also happens to be an event planner. I could not believe how many bridesmaid dresses and bridal gowns she had. She offered several styles, colors and even the accessories. She measured me, did all the alterations and after the weekend of my wedding, I returned the bridal gown & head piece. The flat rate of $200 included everything. My dress was beautiful, I felt so comfortable. There weren’t any problems or mishaps at all. I can’t think of any disadvantages.
Heidi: Would you recommend that brides rent their dress? If so, why?
Gina: I wouldn't only recommend this as an option, I would encourage it! So many women have purchased wedding gowns for hundreds and even thousands of dollars only to have their gowns sit in a plastic bag.
Heidi: What about your daughter wearing it?
Gina: I do not regret, not having my wedding dress for my daughter to wear. I want her to choose a style/design that suits her- like my dress was for me. I will encourage her to rent, because it's a weekend celebration, dressed up like a princess for the day....the only thing that needs to last as long as your marriage should be your commitment & trust, not your wedding gown.
Heidi: Well said, friend. Thanks Gina!
