Sweet Bliss: Marcus & Mindy’s Southern Elegant Wedding

Okay, so we are totally in love with all the details of Mindy and Marcus' sweet southern nuptials! The beautiful couple {who also got their pretty Save the Dates and Programs from MagnetStreet!} had their southern elegant wedding just weeks ago in North Carolina. We're super excited to share all kinds of captured moments from their big day, along with their chic personalized stationery choices. And of course ... their love story and wedding day details, as told by Mindy. Enjoy! But first, their fabulous wedding programs ... from our softly classic Romantic Rose design suite: Southern Elegant Wedding program Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Tell us a little about your proposal We had known that we wanted to get married for a while before a proposal took place. I was on spring break from graduate school, and we decided we would take a trip to Boone, NC where we went to college and met. The day we were leaving, I had already decided that I should not go because my grandfather was in the hospital. My mother encouraged me to go ahead and everything would be okay. Marcus' parents live in Boone, so we stayed with them. We did not have too many plans that weekend due to the rain, so I was trying to enjoy a slow Saturday morning while Marcus was trying to persuade me to get ready and go do something around town. Marcus then tried to get me to go for a walk on campus. It was still raining and I was not really wanting to walk in the rain. He then just pulled into campus and said, 'we are walking on campus.' I felt that Marcus was being awkward that day, but sometimes he gets really sentimental so I just thought this was something he was really sentimental about. As we were walking, he ended up taking me to the spot where we first met on campus during my sorority's fundraiser. The only thing I fully remember about the actual moments of him proposing ... is him not getting down on one knee and me pushing him down onto his knee into a puddle. He had some of our best friends hiding in a bush on campus taking pictures and both parents joined us for lunch on King Street. Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Did you have something borrowed, blue, old, and new? Yes, my something borrowed was Marcus' fraternity pin that he was given when he graduated. It was attached to my bouquet beside my own sorority pin. My something blue was a heart cut out of my grandfather’s shirt that was sewn into the back of my dress. My grandfather passed away in October 2015 and I would have given anything to have him physically present on my wedding day. My something old was my mom’s veil that she wore on her wedding day and my great grandmother bought for her during her planning process. My something new was a pair of earrings that I had bought that matched my dress perfectly. Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration And a six pence for her shoe! My sister-in-law also finished the saying by giving me a six pence for my shoe. It's tradition for the father-of-the-bride to place a six pence in the bride's left shoe for good luck. It was so neat having this piece to complete this wedding tradition. When we were doing our first look and exchanging of letters with each other. I remember saying, 'It’s our wedding day!' over and over again and having butterflies in my stomach. We were so excited that our day was finally here and those pre-wedding feelings are just something you can’t forget. Our decor was very southern elegant wedding. We love everything about the south and we got married in an open-air cotton mill that was recently renovated. Our colors were muted mint, gold, and blush to keep the feel very soft and elegant. I met my photographer in elementary school at after school care, then we went to middle and high school together. We were also at Appalachian State at the same time. Courtney has always been so talented, and I've always been a fan of her photography. Courtney took some pictures of Marcus and me together when we were still dating and we still love those. As soon as we got engaged, she was the first person I contacted! Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration What advice do you have for folks currently planning a wedding? My biggest piece of advice is to not stress over the little things. It is so much easier said than done, but I spent so much time stressing about things that were beyond my control. There will be vendors who will make you upset, but there are also vendors that will do anything for you! The most important thing is that at the end of the day you are going to be married to the person you love! Nothing else matters. Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration Southern Elegant Wedding inspiration And alas ... how did you two meet? Marcus and I met in September of 2011. We were in a sorority and fraternity at Appalachian State, and I was philanthropy chair that year. It just so happened that our organizations were partnering up for Homecoming that year. I had a big fundraiser event a few weeks before we started working on Homecoming events and two of his brothers reached out to me to see if they could come and help. While I was setting up, I remember one of my roommates telling me, 'Mindy, these guys are cute! You should speak to them.' I was so embarrassed that she said that and was not really interested in dating at the time. Marcus came to work the event, and I was surprisingly interested in him ... but didn't think much would come of it. Marcus must have felt the same way, because he continued to pursue me even in the time of me not wanting to be in a relationship. I eventually realized something was different about him and that I had feelings for him. We started dating in November of that year!
