Sneak Peek: DIY Southern Vintage Wedding

DIY Southern Vintage Wedding

There is so much lovely to Travis and Mandy's DIY southern vintage wedding, we're taking two days to unpack the loveliness. Today is a behind the scenes tour--from attire to the DIY décor. Tomorrow ... their full wedding feature.

Travis and Mandy were married at the Historic Jasmine Plantation near Richmond, VA. Their wedding colors were mostly dark purple and sunflower but they also used lots of browns, greens and champagne. Mandy wore an exquisite champagne-colored dress with a beaded bodice and ruffled bottom {more on that later!}. Jamie Jansen of Jamie J Photography is the talented photographer behind the beauty and MagnetStreet Weddings had the honor of being their stationer and printing their save the dates, invitation suite and thank you cards.

As you'll soon see, their casual southern style and vintage vibe is creatively woven throughout their entire wedding. Mandy, an event planner herself, made and decorated almost everything herself. And here she is to walk us through the decor and DIY elements.

"My dress was my absolutely favorite! It was an Allure dress that had a sweetheart neckline and A-line bottom. It was not anything I pictured myself getting married in but I fell in love with it. It was actually the very first dress I tried on and after three more bridal appointments at different stores, I had to go back and get that dress. It had a lace top with "craziness" at the bottom. My favorite part was that it was a champagne color. It was by far the darkest dress on the racks but that went perfect with my "southern vintage" wedding theme.

I wore cowboy boots for my shoes. They were brown cowboy boots with a purple inlay design to match my wedding colors. All of my bridesmaids wore different purple colored strapless bridesmaids dresses with cowboy boots. My flower girl also wore cowboy boots with a purple tutu and yellow shirt (I knew I could never find a flower girl dress in my champagne color dress so a friend made a tutu for her to wear).

Vintage and fabric bouquets. The friend who made my veil, hair flower, and flower girl's tutu, also made the fabric bouquets for myself and my 7 bridesmaids. My bouquet was made of lace, burlap, and purple and champagne fabric flowers. The stem of the bouquet was wrapped in lace with a lace bow and included a locket of a picture of my older brother who died of cancer when he was 5 and I was 4. My bouquet also included vintage brooches and earrings from my mother and my two grandmothers which accounted for my "something old" and "something blue" in that old saying. My bridesmaids also had fabric bouquets but included more yellow and green--but without the brooches.

DIY decor: ceremony bows, ceremony programs, all the signs (chalkboard, wooden, reserved, etc.), centerpieces, bouquets, burlap chair sashes, photo booth.

I made the photo booth hanging from the tree, my mother made all the centerpieces, mason jar flower arrangements at the ceremony site and the reception, the boutonnieres and corsages for the groomsmen and all the family, and other odds and ends like the flower girl basket and the cake cutting knife and server.

The chalkboard signs. The chalkboard signs were spray painted and put together by my mom and I and written by my bridesmaids.

Almost everything you see in the decorations is something that either myself, my mom, my step mom, or my bridesmaids made or put together. We decorated for 3 straight days for this wedding and everything turned out better than I could ever imagine.
