Elegant Navy and Orange Wedding

Navy and Orange Wedding on the Waterfront

We're so proud to present Erin and Pieter's elegant navy and orange wedding on the waterfront. Married at the Regatta Place--located on historic Goat Island, in the center of Goat Island Marina in Newport, RI, this wedding is a lovely reflection of their personalities. Casual, comfortable and intimate, we love every detail about this East Coast event--from the navy and orange color scheme and clog ceremony {Pieter is Dutch}, to the love and devotion from guests that traveled from near and far to celebrate with them! Photographer Clare Norton did an impeccable job of capturing the spirit and passion--of this couple and setting. Enjoy! Wedding Style: Casual-Nautical. The ceremony by far. It was such a special moment to share with our closest family and friends. Wedding sign in nautical Rhode Island wedding About the ceremony... Erin said, "Our wedding ceremony was absolutely amazing in every way. We had married friends perform our ceremony--from start to finish. Whether from Boston to RI or across the country or ocean--all of our guests traveled to be there. They began the ceremony having everyone stand. Those who had traveled at least 100 miles were asked to continue standing. Then 500 miles, then 1000 miles, then 5000 miles, and 10,000 miles. At that point, everyone was sitting, and they said, 140,000 miles. All looking confused, they then said, that is how far Pieter and Erin have traveled to this day, they are the last two standing. I even cry writing this!" We also had a "clog ceremony" where Pieter changed my shoes from heels to clogs to symbolize me joining his culture. Oh, and we wrote our own vows, had a friend flip a coin for who goes first, and Pieter read his from a napkin that he had written them on. Newport, Rhode Island wedding ceremony at the Regatta Place Groom putting on Dutch wedding shoes in clog ceremony Wedding ceremony toasting Advice well taken... To enjoy every minute and not let it go too fast. I also loved having the first look before the wedding so that we could go take pictures around Newport. It is such a beautiful place, we have great pictures, and we didn't miss a minute of the cocktail hour or reception. First look wedding photo Advice should have taken... No regrets but I probably should have gotten more groups of friends together to take pictures. Blue Dutch wedding shoes Advice to share... Some people say "don't sweat the small stuff" but in the end, it is the small details that make it yours. I would also say 100%, do not go over your budget. It is one night and you can make it work for any budget. We knew we loved this location, so we got married on a Sunday in the off season, which worked out beautiful. My Dress: I wore a Casablanca dress called Enzoani. It is a mermaid style dress with ruching and lace. It fit like a glove and I was totally comfortable all night. I bought it at Alexandra's in Fall River, MA My Shoes: I had 3 pairs. First, the heels that are in a lot of pictures. I got those for $18 in the clearance section at DSW. Loved them. Second, the clogs, which we bought in Amsterdam the last time I was there. Third, 4 inch platform flip flops to keep me comfortable on the dance floor. My Flowers: Jean Baker, she did a lovely job. She doesn't have a website. I found her on Craigslist. I wasn't willing to spend too much money on flowers and am totally happy with the result.
